at Rowen (Gwersyll Parc Mawr)
Campsite
The Campsite is owned by the Scout Association and operated by the Conwy Scout Council. It is available only to Groups that are members of the Scout Association or Girlguiding UK; it is not a public campsite.
Rowen Scout Campsite was acquired in 1931 and has been a favourite choice for those who have discovered its charm and convenience, nestled against Wales’s smallest mountain – Tal-y-Fan at 2001 feet high – and neighbouring Parc Mawr, an area of ancient woodland owned by the Woodland Trust, accessible to site users.
The site has an HQ building available for groups to use and is ideally located to explore Snowdonia National Park and the surrounding areas.
Location
The campsite is situated near the village of Rowen, set against Tal-y-Fan with nearby woodland. Situated 4 miles from the historic town of Conwy in the beautiful Conwy Valley, the site offers much, including a good level of privacy. Click here for directions.
Within five miles of the site are rivers, lakes, the seashore, hills, mountains, and valleys, all perfect for hiking, backpacking, cycling, and water sports. Still, within five miles, there are castles and other historic buildings, supermarkets, a multiplex cinema, and a railway station. Between eight and ten miles away are a sports and leisure centre, three public swimming pools, and the Welsh Mountain Zoo. Slightly further away lies the whole of Snowdonia, with climbing, rafting, narrow gauge and steam railways, museums, and even access to day trips to Dublin.
The grounds cover approximately 2 acres on a gentle slope with level areas for tents. An HQ Building is providing an alternative sleeping area (Mats provided), a Kitchen, a Dining/Sleeping Hall, Toilets, and 2 small bunk rooms. There is a shower cubicle behind the camp HQ building that delivers unheated water from the stream.
Note
- The campsite is available only to a single user and will not be shared with any other group. The cost of booking the whole site is just £80.00 per group per night in 2026.
